Product Accounting Analyst (Job ID: 37662)

The Production Accounting Analyst will provide support to the Product Accounting Lead and Reconciliation Lead in handling all the transactional and analytical functions for product accounting for UK Refining & Marketing.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Providing back-up to the Product Accounting Lead.
  • Verification, entry and reconciliation of wet stock purchase invoices within SAP.
  • Reconciliation and control of Marketing oil and product movements within SAP including:
  • Settlement of monthly exchange partner accounts;
  • Entry of third party terminal stock reconciliations and LPG co-mingled partner stock movements to SAP;
  • Reconciliation of duty recovered in sales to cost of duty account.
  • Reconciliation and control of Refinery oil & product movements within Oil Accounting System including:
  • Daily Coke production, sales & inventory and LPG Caverns .
  • Rail Loading movements from Humber Refinery.
  •  Generate Refinery Production statement on Volume and Mass basis. Report results locally and corporately.
  •  Calculation and payment of monthly excise duty liability.
  •  Balance sheet reconciliation of all product and duty accounts.
  •  Overseeing completion and reconciliation of monthly LIFO / FIFO inventory valuation.
  •  Maintaining purchase contracts and wet stock materials in SAP.
  •  Responsible for government reporting for wet product industry statistics.
  •  Calculation of annual captive insurance statistics.
  •  Perform duty netting calculations in accordance with HMRC guidance.
  •  Prepare quarterly VAT return.


  • Legally authorised to work in the UK.
  • Strong financial and analytical background - part-qualified accountant or relevant accouting experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills.
  • Knowledge of IT Systems - Excel, SAP. 
  • Understanding of Refinery process flows, oil movement’s procedures & principals would be advantageous.
  • Team player who is a self-starter and able to work independently.
  • Confidence to challenge status quo with good innovation and problem solving skills.
