Avionic & Electrical Design Engineer - Waddington, Lincoln Business Context The ASTOR Air Mission/Avionics Engineer is responsible for the in service support of the Air Segment Mission and Avionics systems (Sentinel RMk1) design and reports to the Lead Engineer (Mission/Avionics) based at RAF Waddington. This position requires a sound knowledge and experience of aircraft mission systems, communications and avionics design on modern military aircraft, with a focus on military variants. The applicant must have significant experience working with industry on avionic and electrical system evolution. Based at RAF Waddington, the successful candidate will be willing to relocate or commute within reasonable distance. The successful candidate also be part of the growing Airborne Solutions Team which delivers aviation engineering expertise across a wide range of projects to both military and civil customers worldwide. Nature and Scope of Role The ASTOR Mission/Avionics Engineer Contractor will be part of a team and report to the Lead Engineer (Mission/Avionics) within the DSS organisation of the ASTOR project. This role is ideally suited to an experienced engineer but may also suit ex-Service personnel with Project Team experience working closely with the avionics industry. The role offers an exciting challenge in supporting the ASTOR programme going forward with responsibilities for: Developing modification proposals with OEMs for Aircraft avionic and electrical modifications and enhancements. Progressing avionic and electrical design modifications in accordance with regulatory requirements. Developing design solutions to meet new customer requirements in accordance with MAA RAs. Analysis of avionic and electrical design issues, determination of actions and solutions, working in accordance with the WLS task database management tool. Liaison with OEM's on defect investigations and corrective actions. Ensuring that all engineering activities undertaken under your control are conducted in accordance with Raytheon UK site procedures that reflects best practice, and is in accordance with Raytheon UK and MAA procedures. Education and Experience Essential Degree in a Electrical or Electronic Engineering discipline; or equivalent aircraft project team experience. Proven knowledge and experience with design and support of avionic and communications systems. Understanding of RAF Aircraft Air and Support Documents. Desirable Knowledge and experience of the Bombardier Global Express Aircraft. Understanding of military aircraft design regulations. Demonstrable Experience and Knowledge Recent and proven experience in a design support role on military aircraft electrical/avionic systems. Demonstrable technical experience in a management and/or hands on role on military aircraft. Practical aircraft integration experience including knowledge of factors affecting installed performance of electrical systems such as loss budget, EMI/EMC, connector and termination selection, software integration etc. Familiarity with and use of Aircraft Repair manuals. Liaison with OEM's to support defect investigations and corrective actions. Knowledge of Bombardier Global Express and/or Sentinel RMk1 Aircraft avionic and electrical systems. Knowledge of aircraft certification basis and Safety. Familiarity with Microsoft Windows based software. Eligible for or Holder of current SC security clearance (RSL will sponsor as required).
