North Kesteven District Council is focused on making a difference for people and communities. We have a track record of innovation, delivery and high performance, underpinned by our core organisational values - people focused, professionalism, teamwork, high performing, honesty.
Crucial to our continued success is the Council’s Overview and Scrutiny function. We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual who can take a lead role in helping to develop and subsequently deliver a set of proposals that will unlock the potential of the scrutiny function; making it truly member led and enabling members to consider a much wider range of issues that are of genuine interest and concern to the daily lives of all the district’s residents.
You’ll have the skills and experience of working in a democratic environment, most likely, but not necessarily, in a local government setting. This role is not just about operational delivery so you’ll have experience of change management ideally within a scrutiny function. Building great relationships and winning the confidence of members, officers, and other stakeholders is essential to this role, so you’ll need both first class verbal and written communication skills, plus excellent negotiating and influencing skills; along with a strong understanding of current policy issues likely to impact both local government and the wider communities within North Kesteven. You must be able to engage both with elected members, a diverse range of teams across the Council, and external organisations.
Scrutiny plays an integral part in bringing challenge and oversight to the delivery of the council’s ambitious priorities as set out within its corporate plan - the NK Plan. It is also key to driving improvement and as such this role sits within the Strategy and Transformation team and is very much forward looking. You will be confident in taking a dynamic and collaborative approach to help the Council achieve its organisational priorities.
If you share our values and have the relevant skills and experience to help us deliver our vision for the scrutiny function then we would love to hear from you.
